Key Features & Advantages

Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: The defining characteristic of 904L is its   superior resistance to uniform corrosion, particularly in sulfuric acid,   phosphoric acid, and other complex acidic chlorides. The addition of copper   enhances its performance in sulfuric acid environments, far surpassing   conventional molybdenum-alloyed steels.

Excellent Pitting and Crevice Corrosion Resistance: The high molybdenum and   chromium content provides outstanding resistance to localized attack from   chlorides, making it ideal for use in seawater and other chloride-containing   process streams.

High Strength and Durability: 904L offers excellent mechanical properties,   including high tensile and yield strength, ensuring structural integrity and   long service life under demanding conditions.

Outstanding Fabricability: Despite its high alloy content, 904L can be welded   and fabricated using standard techniques, although it requires greater care and   more power than standard austenitic grades due to its higher strength.

Low Carbon Content: The low carbon content (0.02% max) minimizes the risk of   carbide precipitation during welding, preserving its corrosion resistance in the   heat-affected zones (HAZ) and eliminating the need for post-weld annealing in   most cases.
